May Workshops: Found-Object Art
We have lots of free events coming up in May that center reuse, repair, and found-object art! Learn new skills, or come practice your favorite arts and crafts with a supportive community.
- Saturday May 10, 1-4pm: Trash Treasure Hunt
Come on a trash walk with us! Participate in the process of finding interesting objects that can be used in your art, and learn how to clean different materials so they can be used in sculpture. - Monday May 12, 6-8pm: Upcycling with Kids: Sensory Bottles
Create a DIY sensory bottle toy out of common household materials. Keeps kids entertained and helps in the development of important cognitive and motor skills! - Wednesday May 14, 6-8pm: Branch Weaving
Explore using found objects such as tree branches as looms to create woven art! - Wednesday May 15, 6-8pm: 2-D Sculpture Collage
Learn the elements of creating a 2-D sculpture collage using found-objects and make your own. - Saturday May 17 & 24, 1-3pm: Found Object Mosaics
A beginner-level class in two parts for creating mosaic art using found-objects. Learn everything you need to know to create your own mosaic art! - Wednesday May 28, 6-8pm: Repair Cafe
Practice the art of repairing with us. Bring something that needs fixing and our volunteers will help you to diagnose the problem and learn how to repair your stuff!
Don’t forget to take these skills and create a project for the Trash to Treasure Art Challenge! Submit your found-object artwork by June 15 to participate. Selected works will be displayed in a group gallery exhibition.

Thrift Shop Update
We are now open on Fridays during the hours of 10:00 am – 5:00 pm at our new location: 734 Columbia Street in Utica, NY for shopping as well as donation drop-offs! Thanks to the hard work of our many volunteers, our shop is now in the “soft launch” phase — we are still working on setting up some sections, and optimizing the shopping experience, but we would love for you to visit and give us your feedback. Our grand opening and more shopping hours will be coming soon!
Thank you for your patience and support as we strive to keep these usable materials out of the landfill, and provide affordable art supplies to the community. We can’t wait to see what you make!

Earth Week Community Cleanup
Thank you to all of our volunteers who came out to celebrate Earth Week with us on Saturday! Despite the rain, with 24 volunteers participating, we were able to clean up litter at seven different sites in Utica! Big thank you also to the City of Utica for collection and disposal of the trash, and Keep Mohawk Valley Beautiful for supplying us with bags and gloves.
